I never dreamed I'd see it happen, but I watched as someone ate one of my caricatures. Friends were having a birthday party for their 5 year old and asked if I would draw a caricature of him as Ironman that they would put on his cake. I've heard of these printers that can print out edible prints and thought it would be a lot of fun to do. I've got to say it was pretty cool seeing my artwork on the cake. My favorite part was watching the kids eat the cake. Hearing the birthday boy cheer, "I'm eating my eyes!" and another guest joining in, "I'm eating your foot!"

Halloween Monsters
Just in time for Halloween, here are a couple of monsters for your viewing pleasure. I'm optimistically hoping that I'll have a few more monsters to share before Halloween. If I don't then I was probably eaten by zombies and couldn't get to them.
Dr. Frankenstein and his monster. Remember that, the doctor was named Frankenstein, not the monster.
The wolfman taking care of an itch.

Bunch of Characters
I've started drawing these "character designs" on 4x6 index cards. There mostly about experimenting with style and creating interesting poses. I also wanted to use some marker I have. I'll probably also start using color pencils and watercolor in the future.
the Amazon
the Cowboy
(recognize the costume? Here's a hint: "Reach for the sky!")
Gangnam Style
the Ninja
the Waitress

Iron Hulk Smash!
This little boy came up to my co-worker at work and asked to be drawn as Iron Man Hulk. That idea got stuck in my head. I love thinking about Tony Stark needing to make an Iron Man suit for the Hulk to help "save the world." How awesome would that be? Seriously, Marvel if you read this post feel free to take the idea and run with it. It's not mine, so I won't even ask for any of the credit. Just make it happen.
Also, I know I could have taken the picture a little further. I too had the idea of Hulk's body being to big for the suit and you can see bits and pieces of him popping out. I was just too lazy to draw such details.

Gnome
Nothing much to say about this. Except that I like gnomes. You can blame David the Gnome for my love of gnomes. That and the fact that their name starts with a silent "g." There is something about that silent "g" that I find hilarious. That is all.

Tigers
The summer is coming to an end and the school year is about to start up again. In honor of this, I decided to draw my school's mascot, the tiger. In a fit of creativity I ended up drawing three different tigers. I'm thinking about using one of them to make a t-shirt. Right now I'm leaning towards the middle one. What do you think?

Summer 2012 Caricatures
With the summer coming to a close ( I know its just the start of August, but I consider the summer to be wrapping up) I thought I'd share a few of the caricatures I drew at the park. I took these photos with my phone so they aren't the best quality.
We have a caricature of Pres. Obama with the American Flag behind him. This guy wanted the Mexican flag.
Harry Potter bodies...Joy.
Usually I don't color the faces green when I do Hulk bodies, but he was a co-worker so I went for it.
Another co-worker as a female Loki
This was the woman's idea, she wanted them to be fairies in the forest. I tried to keep the guy as manly as I could being a fairy.
This is not a caricature, but something I did because I was bored. Red Skull and Capt. America enjoy a day of roller coasters.
My first ever request for Nightcrawler and I screw up the costume...sigh.

Self caricature 2012
I did a new self caricature for work at an amusement park. I was thinking the other day that when I draw star wars bodies people want to be Jedi. What about Han Solo? So I decided to draw myself as Han with Greedo. Maybe this will create more interest in Han Solo bodies.

Housing Market
Trying something new here. I've seen it a lot more lately where artist have gotten rid of the black lines and have replaced them with a darker color that matches the color of the item. I thought I'd give it a whirl. It took a while but I think I've learned a few things for next time.
FYI, I drew these gags several months ago and have been sitting on them. Now that it's summer time I've been coloring them and posting them here. They are all animal based as that was the theme I was working on at the time. So expect a lot more of these during the summer.

O: Orca
Geez, I get half way through the alphabet and then I just stop to pursue other interests. LAME! Let me just say, my bad. I should never do something half way.
When last I left the animal kingdom I should have done "O." I chose the orca or as they are known in popular circles, the killer whale. I drew one before these two that came out very generic. I've always had this problem in my drawings. When I cartoon something I tend to focus too much on the realistic aspects of something and in the process lose what would make a better cartoon version. It's the same with my caricatures. I worry so much about likeness that I don't get bold with my exaggerations. Making my pictures nice but boring. That's part of why I'm doing these exercises. One, to draw things I might not generally draw and two, to develop my drawing to create pictures with more energy and life.

The Cowardly Lion takes up Karate
Recently I had drawn a bunch of gag comics featuring only animals. I'm going through this phase where I don't want to draw people (probably because as a caricature artist that's ALL I draw). I've been sitting on them for a few months because I was waiting to see how things went in the contest (see previous post). As the contest is over for me, I have felt the desire to revisit them. I just need to slap some color on them and I'll start posting them here.
This particular gag is actually an old one for me that I recycled. The original featured a little boy practicing his karate in the backyard. It just seemed to fit so well for the Cowardly Lion since there really are talking trees in Oz. I would show you the original but I'd die of shame. I mean I drew it with a stinkin' sharpie people!

The Brothers Duck
I tried my luck at a competition over at the Cartoonist Studio at the start of the year. I didn't do so hot. I lasted 4 weeks out of 10. I'm a little sad but I'm a big boy, I'll get over it. The comic I created was called, the Brothers Duck. It was about two brothers named Toby and Rusty. Anyways, here are the ten comics I submitted to them for the contest. If you were following the contest you only saw the first four. Also, I made more than ten, so expect more ducks in future post.
