Whoopi

This is a caricature of Whoopi Goldberg that I did in my sketch book with a ball point pen (for Caricaturama 3000). I love drawing with a pen. Mainly because in high school and college I doodled all over my notes with a pen. In one of my sketch books I only draw in pen. It's a great way to not worry about mistakes and just let the drawing take its own form.

Bucket Gnome Classic: Post Modernism

Since my other site is closing and that means that all those comics will disappear from the internets, I've decided to post a few of my own favorites here to live on. Also I plan to color them as a bonus. This one above was first released on November 6, 2009.

My first introduction of post modernism was my freshman year of college. One of my professors wanted us to understand what it was and assigned us to read several articles on the subject. At the time I didn't understand a lick of it. I kept trying to summarize it to myself and I just couldn't make heads or tails of it. Years later I finally got a grasp of the subject and I understood why I was frustrated. Post modernism is a selfish thing in which my ideas are correct, but at the same time I don't want to be rude to you, so your ideas are also correct. Meaning that if our ideas conflict we just ignore the obvious contradictions and smile at each other, both victorious. The reason I didn't understand it was because there was nothing to understand. You can have your cake and eat it too. This comic was my summary on post modernism as a whole.

Bucket Gnome takes a bow

This is part of the last comic on Bucket Gnome telling people to stop going there. I thought it would only be right to have my star, Basil, take a bow.

Clint Eastwood: the Man with No Name

Just wanted to get this thing started on the right foot by posting some older things that I've done. Here is a watercolor caricature of Clint Eastwood. Clint is one awesome guy, he is a great actor/director/old tough guy. I really like his old westerns. My favorite being "the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly." This picture is meant to depict the final showdown.

The Start of Something New

I have recently shut down my comic/blog: bucketgnome.com. As such, all my artsy stuff needed a new place to call home. Enter this new blog. To get you started here are a few things you need to know about me. My name is Dan McMahan. I am a caricature artist/special ed. teacher's aide. I love both my jobs. I am a Christian and am not ashamed to say that.

The above drawing is a sketch I did at work (Six Flags Over Texas) on one of their slower days.
